Homophobic Preacher, George Alan Rekers, In Homosexual Scandal
"George Alan Rekers, the co-founder of the Family Research Council who has admitted hiring a gay man as a travel assistant for a trip to Europe (Rekers claims that he did not know the man was gay), is threatening to sue for defamation.
`If today`s news story in the Miami New Times is accurate,` said Rekers in an e-mail to me, `I have been advised to retain the services of a defamation attorney in this matter, because the fact is that I am not gay and never have been.`
Here`s the rest of Rekers`s response to the Miami New Times, including his version of what happened in Europe, which he says both he and the prostitute agree on. `My travel assistant did in fact lift my luggage each time it was necessary,` says Rekers, adding that he `did not hire him as a prostitute for sexual services` and `explained the Christian faith` to him." http://voices.washingtonpost.com/right-now/2010/05/religious-right_leader_ensnare.html
Deja vu all over again! There have been many vehemently anti-gay preachers and conservative politicians who have been outed in the last few years. Here`s a list of a few of them: Roy Ashburn, Republican California state senator, Edward L. Schrock, Virginia Congressman, Larry Craig, senator from Idaho, Mark Foley, US Representative from Florida, Ted Haggard, televangelist.
You can now add George Alan Rekers, the co-founder of the anti-gay Family Research council, to this list of hypocrites.
Rekers hired a male prostitute from a Web site called rentboy.com, ostensibly as a travel assistant to carry his luggage. That`s as silly as if Charlie Sheen hired an escort from girlsreadytohump.com, and he claimed that he hired her to clean his windows. By the way Rekers was videotaped at an airport carrying his own luggage.
Rekers is threatening to sue the newspaper that first broke this story, but he will only succeed in provoking the Miami Times into digging deeper into his scandalous personal life.
Why can`t all these pro-family and vehemently anti-gay organizations like "Focus on the Family" and "Family Research Council" admit the obvious: Homosexuality is normal, and there are gays and lesbians everywhere including in Christian ministries.
Rekers enjoyed ten days in Europe with his rentboy, staying in first class hotels. Rekers` trip was paid for by working class evangelical Christians who support these homophobic pro-family values ministries.
"The barely-legal male escort, known variously, as Lucien, Geo and Jo-Vanni Roman, has bravely decided to end the charade, telling the Miami New Times that he had nude sexual contact with the 61-year-old `I`m not gay` Rekers. He said there is no question Rekers is homosexual. And Lucien challenged the aging fundamental Christian and co-founder of the Family Research Council to stop engaging in his hypocritical and fraudulent anti-gay activities."
The male escort has confessed that he had sexual contact with Rekers, but the Baptist minister still insists that he isn`t gay. Yeah, right, and neither is former Sen. Larry Craig.
Rekers should do the Christian thing: Tell the truth, embrace his homosexuality, and stop demonizing gays and lesbians.
Homosexuality isn`t a sin, but deceit, hypocrisy, and persecution of a minority are serious transgressions.
