Plane Touches Down Near Sebastian Inlet

By Judyth Piazza CEO (Editor)

A single engine piper pacer 125 was forced to land on AIA, just south of the Sebastian Inlet.  The pilot, Joel Scher, 19 of Vero Beach radioed the Vero Jet Center saying that his engine was down and the cockpit was filling up with smoke.  He was able to glide his father’s aircraft under the telephone lines and land safely on the highway.

“No matter how skilled a pilot is, there is no substitute for a little luck,” said Todd Scher, Joel’s father.

There were two other people aboard and no one was injured.  “Apparently, the plane swallowed a valve,” said Scher.

The plane is to be taken to the Vero Jet Center by trailer later today.
