SETI Astronomer: We Will Discover Intelligent Alien Beings By 2025
"Senior Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence (SETI) astronomer Seth Shostak last night boldly claimed that mankind would certainly detect intelligent alien life by 2025, assuming the right technology is in place to probe 500 light years into space where there are doubtless thousands of ET radio stations transmitting into the ether.
Speaking at an event in San Francisco, Shostak declared: `We`ll find ET within two dozen years.`"
There are thousands of true believers who claim to have already made contact with alien beings, these " UFO abductees" tales are fascinating but they don`t offer a shred of evidence. If abductees would only steal an ashtray, a towel or a pen from a flying saucer I might take them more seriously.
The proof that there is intelligent life in the universe won`t come from a hillbilly who claims to have been abducted by alien beings as he was swallowing moonshine, it`s going to come from an astronomer working for SETI.
As our telescopes probe deeper into space, I`m convinced that eventually we will discover an alien civilization. The pertinent question isn`t are we going to discover intelligent life, but how will people react to this astonishing discovery?
To be frank I don`t have much faith that humankind will react favorably to the discovery of extraterrestrial life. Some Americans didn`t vote for Barack Obama simply because he has black skin, how the hell can we expect these yahoos to welcome the news that we have discovered alien beings with purple skin, three eyes and webbed feet?
In America many evangelicals dismiss UFO sightings as the manifestations of demons. If NASA announces that we have discovered a planet inhabited by intelligent beings, this thrilling news will be greeted by many evangelicals with abject horror. They will flee to the caves in the fear that Earth will soon be invaded by these demonic beings from a distant planet.
Muslims throughout the world will react with shock, they will be outraged that there is a world full of intelligent beings who don`t worship Allah. They will demand that the United Nations crash a suicide ship stocked with nuclear bombs on this heathen planet.
Nevermind the universe, it intelligent life is ever discovered on planet Earth, then maybe I would have hopes that human beings would react with joy at the news that we are not alone in the universe.

Seth claims to have developed an interest in extraterrestrial life at the tender age of ten, when he first picked up a book about the solar system.
