The castle premier soccer league received a major boost from TELKOM, who will be sponsoring the richest competition in the history of South African football since its inception in 1997.

TELKOM introduced an annual knock out competition which is also the richest in the continent (Africa). The inaugural event, which is sure to be a mouth watering titanic battle between the 16 teams within the PSL with a grand prize estimated at 4.2 million.  The newly crowned champions will walk away with 4.2 million.  The runners-up will receive a consolation prize of 1.3 million

The tournament kicked off on the 28th of October and will run until December 16th, such competition is welcomed by early season pace seaters Silver stars who are enjoying themselves at the summit of the premiership.  Stars coach Owen da Gama claims that the amount which is involved in this illustrious tournament is the only sponsor for his team until the end of the season.

Teams without sponsorship will be looking forward to taking full advantage of the big bucks to upset the big teams in the PSL (pirates, chiefs, sundown’s & super sport).  The TELKOM knock out cup is likely to bring out the best teams where the stakes will be high.  There is little or no room for errors.

The so called small teams will be making it difficult for the big guns to advance to the knock out stages.  Whoever wins this competition will have to overcome a daunting task and will rightfully deserve it.

Thanks to TELKOM for lifting the standard of football at the highest level in South Africa.
