Shock Jock Don Imus Utters Another Racist Remark

By Robert Paul Reyes

If you loiter by the chimpanzee exhibit long enough, eventually they will fling feces at you, and if you listen to Don Imus long enough, eventually he will hurl a racist comment.

Don Imus More than a year after being canned for referring to the Rutgers women`s basketball team as "nappy-headed ho`s," the shock jock is in the midst of another controversy for comments he made regarding Dallas Cowboys cornerback Adam (Pacman) Jones during his "Imus in the Morning" radio show.
The only surprise is that it took months for Imus to utter a racist remark, he must be mellowing in his old age. His shtick consists of making rude, vulgar, inappropriate and racist remarks, it was only a matter of time...

"The latest comments by Imus to come under scrutiny were aired on Monday`s broadcast. During a conversation about Jones` run-ins with the law, Imus asked, `What color is he?` Sports announcer Warner Wolf said Jones, formerly known as Pacman,  is African-American. Imus responded: `There you go. Now we know.`"

Imus` comment was not said in jest, it was an off-the-cuff remark that reveals his racist mindset. When racists see a prominent black man break the law, they don`t see this as an aberration but as symbolic of the black race.

Why has Pacman been arrested multiple times? A racist will see Pacman`s black skin as the only explanation required.

"On Tuesday he said he was following the spirit of that promise by calling attention to the unfair treatment of blacks " in this case the arrests of suspended Dallas Cowboys cornerback Adam Jones.

`What people should be outraged about is that they arrest blacks for no reason,` Imus said Tuesday. `I mean, there`s no reason to arrest this kid six times. Maybe he did something once, but everyone does something once."

Quotation from Newsweek

Not to put too fine a point on it, but Imus` explanation is bull s***. First of all, Jones is not a kid, he is a 24-year-old man. In the second place, he didn`t make one mistake, he has been arrested six times-- one incident involved a fistfight and a shooting that left a man paralyzed.

Jones isn`t a poor and misunderstood kid, he is a thug who thinks that his celebrity status puts him above the law.

Racism hasn`t been eradicated and blacks are mistreated by the police, but Jones is no poster boy for mistreated blacks. He is an arrogant punk who would be in prison right now, if he were not a celebrity.

Imus`s original statement was racist and his explanation was racist as well. It`s racist to imply that all blacks are criminals, and it`s also racist to imply that blacks should be excused for criminal behavior because they are just "kids" who are abused by the criminal justice system.

Jones has received too many chances, and so has Imus. The shock jock should be fired again, even if he prostate himself before Al Sharpton again, he should not be granted another chance.
