IWBF Suspends Iran's Basketball Wheelchair

By Suren Hossein

Iran`s Basketball Wheelchair has been suspended until January 1, 2013, due to withdrawal from the quarter-final match of the 2008 Beijing Paralympic Games.

Iran pulled out of the match against the U.S. due to their
dissatisfaction with the draw proposed for the cross-over round and
subsequent schedule.

The International Wheelchair Basketball Federation (IWBF) has released
the decision taken by the Commission for Legal Matters and Eligibility
(CLME) on the action of Iran to withdraw their team from the match.

Furthermore, Iran has been fined USD $5,000.

It is understood that this suspension implies that no official, player
or anybody from Iran is allowed to participate in IWBF sanctioned
activities, including national club competitions and friendly
tournaments.

Non-compliance to the suspension will result in further sanctions.
