By Christopher HIllenbrand

After winning the last two Grand Slam tournaments, American second seed Serena Williams continued her formidable streak well into the French Open as she stepped over Virginia Ruano Pascual in consecutive sets 6-2, 6-0, on her way to round three at Roland Garros. Williams is trying to win her 11th Grand Slam singles title and the 21st Grand Slam of her career.

Williams, who was vulnerable in her shaky start at the open against Klara Zakopalova, certainly dispelled any doubts concerning her power and athleticism on Thursday when she tromped the 35-year-old Spaniard in 57 minutes. The younger of the famed tennis tandem accumulated 23 winners and broke Ruano Pascual`s serve five of eight chances.

Williams is the latest active player to have won a career Grand Slam and, with her sister Venus, constitutes half of the most winningest partnering sister team in tennis history with 37 Grand Slam titles between them.
