Iran wins FIBA Asia Championship

TIANJIN, China - Iran brushed aside China in the final of 25th FIBA Asia Championship for men and won the gold medal on Sunday.
 
Iran beat 14-time FIBA Asia Championship gold medalist 70-52 at the Tianjin Gym.
 
The Persians had won their first title in 2007, beating two-time silver medalists Lebanon, and 74-69.
 
Hamed Hadadi, who had scored 31 points in Iran`s final triumph two years ago, was once again the leading scorer for his side with 19 points.
 
The Memphis Grizzles center also collected 17 rebounds " 10 of them in defense.
 
It was 9th victory in a row for Veselin Matic`s team. Iran had already defeated Chinese Taipei, Uzbekistan, Kuwait, Japan, the Philippines, South Korea, Qatar and Jordan in the competitions.
 
Iran will take part in the 2010 FIBA World Championship which will take place in Turkey. China and Jordan who secured second and third places among the Asian teams will also participate in the prestigious event.
