SOP reporter: TV series 'Supernatural' is 'worth watching'

('DiggThis')

There was Buffy, the Vampire Slayer and Angel, the Vampire with a Soul. Then the Charmed Ones and Clark Kent, the future Man of Steel. Now fighting the good fight continues with Supernatural starring WB alums Jared Padalecki (Gilmore Girls) and Jensen Ackles (Dawson's Creek and Smallville).

Somewhere between Route 66 and The X-Files, the series follows Sam (Padalecki) and Dean Winchester (Ackles), two brothers going from town to town, fighting evil and saving people while looking for their missing father John. Here is the story so you won't get confused.

It began over 20 years ago, when their mother Mary was killed by an evil force at their home in Lawrence, Kansas. This leads John and his sons to hit the road looking for the monster that killed her. While still not finding the thing that killed her, the Winchester men began the family business-- "saving people, hunting things."

Now, fast forward to the present. Sam is now in college with a bright future and a beautiful girlfriend named Jessica, while his older brother Dean and his father John stay in business. Then, one night, Dean shows up to Sam's house with bad news.

"Dad's on a hunting trip," he said. "And he hasn't been home in a few days." Reluctantly, Sam, who thought he was done "hunting" decides to help search for Dad. But soon, the search for Dad turns out to be longer than expected. And that's not all.

Returning home, Sam's girlfriend Jessica was taken by the evil thing that killed his mother. Fueled by grief and revenge, Sam returns to tge family business with Dean for only two reasons: Find Dad and kill the evil force that took his mother and the girl he loved. But until then, the Winchester men "got work to do"-- fighting evil and saving people.

Supernatural is a terrific show because the episodes are standalone as well as having the main characters being develop slowly but surely. Another reason is the personalities between the brothers. Whereas Dean is roguish and loose, Sam is serious and sensitive. The relationship between them is another key factor in the series. They don't always get along, but Sam and Dean truly have love for one another.

Episodes such as the pilot, "Home," and "Route 666" makes this show good. But so far, every one has been good from beginning to end, making come back next week for more.

The series have done very well on Tuesdays at 9 p.m. after Gilmore Girls, and will move to Thursday nights at 9 p.m. in about two weeks, going against ratings powerhouse CSI. I hope Supernatural gets renewed for season two and be part of the CW Network next fall. Definitely one of the best up-and-coming shows, it is worth watching and worth sticking around to thrill and scare us for years to come.
