General Hospital: August 27, 1999

By Garrett Godwin

Grieving over the "death" of her boyfriend Lucky Spencer, Elizabeth Webber (Rebecca Herbst) got dressed up and went to Jake's one night trying to forget the pain.  When she went there, a guy tried make moves on her and wouldn't take no for an answer.  Enter Jason Morgan, who came to Elizabeth's rescue.  Instead of thanking Jason, Elizabeth lashed out at him, but soon starts to open up to him.  From there on, a bond is form, and Liaison is born on August 27, 1999. For seven years, Jason and Elizabeth continue to have a strong connection that has been tested, but never broken.  They can always be themselves when together.  This is more than the good girl meets the bad boy with a heart of gold.  It is a story about two different people from two different worlds who became best friends and confidants; they slowly but surely fall in love with one another.

Something has always brought Jason and Elizabeth together.  For instance, in the beginning, Jason helped Elizabeth find the strength to go on with her life without Lucky as Elizabeth helped Jason do the same when he gave up parental rights to his "son" Michael.  These two have save each other from death and themselves, finding solace and comfort within one another.

Since 1999, we have watch this couple go on motorcycle rides and played pool.  As their friendship grows, so do the feelings they have for each other.  The summer of 2002 became the summer of Liaison when Steve Burton, who plays Jason, returned to General Hospital.  Some of the couple's hottest moments include the kiss at Elizabeth's studio and the kiss at Vista Point.

No matter what-- and who -- got in their way, Jason and Elizabeth are never apart.  They have always been able to find their way back to each other.  In 2003, the two reconnect and bond over the cancer of Jason's sister and Elizabeth's best friend Emily.  But it isn't until this summer that Jason and Elizabeth not only renew their friendship, but became closer than ever before.  The summer of 2006 belongs to Liaison once again.

The intimate scenes between the couple were well-written, sweet, sexy, romantic, and beautiful.  Everything about the week of August 14 was good-- from their night together to spending the day together having coffee and breakfast.

What makes Jason and Elizabeth work on General Hospital is that even though we never heard them say "I love you" to each other, we know that they love each other through their friendship, knowing how much these two meant to one another and the way they look at one another.  This is one couple worth watching and worth rooting for.

Steve Burton and Rebecca Herbst have amazing onscreen chemistry, bringing Liaison to life onscreen when in a scene together.  Jason and Elizabeth have incredible super couple potential, GH writers and producers have to put them together.  It is seven years long overdue.  As Fall comes, I'm looking forward to where their story is going because it is just beginning.

Like Jason and Elizabeth, I have no regrets.

Catch them on General Hospital weekdays on ABC as well as weeknights and every Sunday afternoon on SoapNet.
