Countdown for the Stargate closing down begins Monday

Countdown for the Stargate closing down begins Monday

By Garrett Godwin

The countdown begins as the SCIFI Channel begins a week-long marathon of Stargate SG-1, starting Monday morning, before the gate shuts down permanently for the series finale this Friday.

Based on the 1994 movie Stargate, the series follows a military expeditionary team that travels through a wormhole known as the Stargate, exploring new worlds while battling intergalactic enemies that pose a threat to not only Earth, but the entire galaxy.  For most of the past decade, SG-1's arch-enemy has been the Goa'uld, but also spent the last two years fighting an even more powerful enemy called the Ori.

Stargate SG-1 debuted on Showtime in 1997, and lasted for five years.  The series then moved to SCIFI in 2002, where it gained a wider audience and led to the spin-off Stargate Atlantis, which has been renewed for a fourth season, with Amanda Tapping as Col. Carter coming on board.

Starting Monday morning, SCIFI will air a week-long marathon of fan favorite episodes that includes comments written and send by the fans during each episode, showing their love and support for SG-1.  This will lead up to the series finale this Friday at 8pm.

For a decade, they've been adventurers, explorers, heroes, and protectors.  Now, watch as they become legends forever as the countdown winds down for the final mission of Stargate SG-1 starting this Monday morning at 8am on the SCIFI Channel.
