American Bandstand History: September 8

By Garrett Godwin

We`re goin` hoppin (hop!)
We`re goin` hoppin` today
Where things are poppin` (pop!) the Philadelphia way
We`re gonna drop (drop!) in on all the music they play
On the Bandstand

The Drifters performed their #1 classic "Save the Last Dance for Me" in 1960.

In 1973, the late, great Curtis Mayfield -- aka Mr. Superfly Soundtrack -- came by to give everyone on Bandstand a "Future Shock".

Then in 1984, Scandal featuring Patty Smyth sang their Top 10 classic "The Warrior" and their next song, "Hands Tied", along with Patrice Rushen with "Get Off".  And in the Video Showcase was former J. Geils Band frontman Peter Wolf with his Top 20 hit, "Lights Out".

And it all happened on today, September 8 on AMERICAN ...

For now, Garrett Godwin, so long!
