Jet Makes An Urgent Landing Immediately After Takeoff

By Christopher HIllenbrand

An American Airlines jetliner was forced to land at Kennedy minutes after it took off from LaGuardia as a precautionary measure. The flight`s pilot reported engine malfunction as the cause.

American Flight 309 departed LaGuardia at 8:15 this morning. Shortly following takeoff, the pilot dispatched to air traffic control that there were problems with the engine that provoked the plane to be rerouted to nearby J.F.K. airport in Brooklyn. The jet landed safely while none of the passengers and crew suffered any injuries.

Pasquale DiFulco, a spokesperson for the Port Authority, revealed that some plane debris was found in the vicinity around LaGuardia in Queens.

As investigations move forward, officials from the agency are unable to confirm whether or not the debris found was from the ditched takeoff today. But the FAA will continue probing into the cause for the emergency landing.
