Sacramento Mosque Vandalized

The Sacramento Valley chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-SV) will hold a news conference today with community and interfaith leaders to call on law enforcement authorities to investigate a possible bias motive for vandalism at the West Sacramento Islamic Community Center.

CAIR-SV said a police report indicates that vandals broke into the back door of the mosque and damaged religious wall hangings and a bookshelf that held Qurans, as well as other property in the facility. The vandals also stole items from the mosque.

Because of the nature of the vandalism, we urge local law enforcement authorities and the FBI to investigate a possible bias motive for this incident, " said CAIR-SV Civil Rights Coordinator Adel Syed.

Just yesterday, CAIR`s Washington, D.C., headquarters reported that a mosque in Oregon had been vandalized earlier this month with hate graffiti. CAIR recently reported other incidents of mosque vandalism nationwide.

The Washington-based Muslim civil rights organization is urging American Muslim individuals and institutions to review advice on security procedures contained in its "Muslim Community Safety Kit."

On Thursday, December 3, CAIR will hold a news conference in the nation`s capital to release its 14th annual report, titled Seeking Full Inclusion, " on the status of Muslim civil rights in the United States.
