Best Dressed World Leaders - Who is the Most Fly

Best Dressed World Leaders - Who is the Most Fly

By Ashley Mathews

Most of us watch award shows to see our favorite celebrities on the red carpet. However, we also watch to see what they are wearing so we can pass good or bad judgment on them. However, we also watch the election coverage or presidential news conferences for some of the same reasons. It is true that a majority of us are concerned with the issues leaders will address, but it helps if they look good while doing it. Hence, they should be recognized like our celebrities for the effort they put into their style, because people do judge a book by its cover.

Garrison Keillor of The Honolulu Advertiser (www.honoluluadvertiser.com/opinion) thinks we should require a dress code for presidential candidates. In addition, some people are particularly concerned with the shoes presidential candidates wear. According to Dummocrats-Presidential candidates and their shoes (http://www.dummocrats.com/archives/000758.php one can tell a lot by looking at the shoes a man or women is wearing.

Our very own President George W. Bush is one of the best dressed because of his ability to look conservative in a suit as well as cowboy attire. When he`s at the White House you can catch him in a traditional blue or black suit with a red, light blue tie, always representing the American flag. At the ranch in Texas, he still manages to look good in a plaid shirt, denim jeans, cowboy hat and boots to complete his hard working American look.

Prime Minister Tony Blair is another who knows how to accessorize a conservative suit by wearing colorful ties to accent his black or blue suit. Also, Prime Minster Shaukat Aziz of Pakistan is no stranger to this accent tie look. Aziz, wore a dark blue suit with a sky blue shirt underneath and a pink tie. This was very daring because it is hard to get men to wear pink. The leader of Spain, Jose Luis Rodriquez Zapatero stepped outside of the box by wearing a light gray suit with a gray, blue white striped tie instead of the traditional black or blue suit. All four of theses leaders have tailored the conservative style to represent themselves.

Non-western traditional looks are always a plus because they illustrate individualization. Jamaica`s PM Portia Simpson Miller, Hamid Karzai of Afghanistan, Pres. JA Kufuor of Ghana, Kim Jong -IL of North Korea, Ricardo Maduro former President of Honduras and Pope Benedict XVI are among those who stand out in a crowd. PM Simpson Miller is usually wearing bright colors like yellow to represent her Caribbean heritage.

Karzai mixes it up with a suit underneath his kaftan/robe which has very detailed patterns on it; the look is complete with a headdress. Kufour looks very luxurious in is white dashiki trimmed with gold patterns. Kim Jong-il who has been called a playboy by the media wears platform shoes with his bouffant hairstyle. Ricardo Maduro also looks like a playboy with his slicked back hair and casual attire consisting of button up shirts and slacks. He usually leaves the first few buttons on his shirt open exposing his chest. The last, but not least is the Prada Pope " Benedict XVI, who wears fabulous Italian red loafers.

These leaders all exemplify their own sense of style that is worthy to be praised. They have made it clear that being the best dressed is not just about choosing the right clothes, but its about having the right accessories, shoes, hair, and make-up. However, these leaders will probably be displaying their styles behind a podium and not on the red carpet.
