Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov Meets with Wolfgang Ischinger, the EU Representative in the Troika
Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation Sergey Lavrov received on October 8 Wolfgang Ischinger, the EU Representative in the Troika for the Kosovo talks.
There was underscored on the Russian side the need to strictly abide by the principles agreed upon in the Troika of balanced mediation and commitment to UN Security Council resolution 1244, which is the foundation of Kosovo settlement. The intention of Russia to continue on this basis to actively participate in the negotiation process and to search for ways to achieve a compromise between the parties that can become the basis for approval of a status solution in the UNSC was reaffirmed, emphasis on the inadmissibility of setting a timeframe for the negotiation process was laid and the precedent character of the status outcome and the inadmissibility of statements prejudging the outcome of the negotiations and running counter to their goals were particularly noted.
Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Vladimir Titov and Alexander Botsan-Kharchenko, the Minister’s special envoy to the Balkans, also held detailed consultations with Wolfgang Ischinger.
