3000 year old Canoe found in the Black Sea

An angler, in Inebolu, Turkey, when collected his fishing net, noticed in it a large wooden piece, approximately 3m. By 60 centimeters. Ashore, a closer look revealed that it was part of a canoe, made of chestnut tree.

The piece was sent to the General Directorate of Forests in Ankara, which then confirmed that the piece was a part of a canoe dating back to 3000 years ago. The historic find will be sent to Israel, for a more detailed examination and is expected to shed light to the early civilization in The Black Sea.

The same anglers, had some years ago, caught the tailpiece of a Turkish Air force plane, which had crashed in the same locality in 1966. The tailpiece had the Turkish flag and the identity number 855.
