CLCs contribute to finding enemy weapons

BAGHDAD " Concerned Local Citizens took weapons out of the hands of extremists Jan. 26 in Arab Jabour by discovering six improvised explosive devices and a weapons cache.

The weapons cache consisted of 30 60 mm mortars, seven 57 mm projectiles, four 122 mm projectiles, two 107 mm rockets, one 81 mm mortar, five jugs of homemade explosives, two 57 mm mortars rigged as IEDs and 200 DSHKA large-caliber machine gun rounds.

The contents of the cache were handed over to Soldiers from Company D, 1st Battalion, 30th Infantry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 3rd Infantry Division and destroyed in a controlled detonation by an explosive ordnance disposal team.

Later, a group of CLCs handed over three IEDs to Company A, 1-30th Inf. Regt. Soldiers. Two of the IEDs were 57 mm mortars rigged with detonation cord and filled with HME. The third IED was a two-liter bottle filled with HME.

In a third find the same day, also in Company A`s area of operations, CLCs discovered three more IEDs. The three IEDs were 57 mm projectiles filled with unknown bulk explosive rigged with detonation cord.

All six IEDs were destroyed in controlled detonations.
