Guess Who's Back? Sunshine Anderson with Sunshine at Midnight

Guess Who's Back? Sunshine Anderson with Sunshine at Midnight

By Janera Fedrick

Sunshine Anderson is back with a new album, a new label, and a new Sunshine. Her new album, Sunshine At Midnight is her coming of age album. “I've grown up in these last five years and I have become a woman," said Anderson.

After a six-year sabbatical, she returned to the top of the R&B chart with “Something I Wanna Give," the first single off her Music World Music and Shining Star, debut album. Shining Star is a joint venture with Matthew Knowles' label, Music World Music, and Universal. Now, I bet you are wondering, “What took Sunshine so long?"

A series of industry missteps followed by a bout of depression lead Sunshine to a dark place. “I had a dark period in my life, “said Anderson. This influenced the title of her album. “Even at Midnight, you can still have Sunshine," said Anderson.

The album is 10-tracks deep and features Anderson's signature raspy alto. The album also features the production talents of Mike City, Raphael Saadiq, Warren Campbell, Walter Msilap, and Nottz, as well as Dr. Dre. One of the tracks of the album, “My Whole Life" is about a woman who is ready to give up on a seven-year relationship. On "Switch It Up," Sunshine let's the ladies know that you should live your life."

This album really caters to women and touches on many issues that women deal with on a daily basis. Listening to the album is for me like sitting down having a conversation with one of my girlfriends. Therefore, if you are having relationship problems or you are looking for a man that will treat you like royalty, go pick up the album.

Sunshine Anderson is a native of Charlotte, NC. She caught the attention of Soul Life CEO, Mike City while attending college at North Carolina Central University, where she earned a B.S. degree in criminal justice.
