Judyth Piazza chats with Damon Cleveland, CEO & Co-Founder of TheIndie.biz

By Judyth Piazza CEO (Editor)

CEO and Co-Founder of TheIndie.biz, Damon Cleveland, is a pioneer in digital music distribution for independent bands. His love and passion for music began early in his life with a home filled with harmony. His father is a jazz musician and his sister, a singer.

The inspiration for TheIndie.biz came from Damon`s father, RafikWilliams, a talented jazz pianist who released several albums and traveled the world as a musician, but never received much airplay beyond some small jazz stations. Damon`s passion for quality music and independent artists, and his knowledge and expertise in digital programming all came together in a moment of clarity as Damon saw an opportunity to provide artists a digital distribution solution specifically tailored to meet the needs of independent artists and their loyal fans.

TheIndie.biz was launched in 2007 with the ultimate goal of offering independent music fans around the world easy access to quality bands and artists, while giving independent artists a global platform to virally distribute and showcase their music. The site has grown, and today it is home to close to 10,000 bands from around the world.

Born in Jamaica Queens, New York, Damon officially began his venture into the digital world with a BBA in Computer Information Systems, from CUNY in 1996. Five years later, he became a Certified Entertainment & Media Manager, receiving the professionaland educational nod in this arena from New York University in 2001.

Before creating TheIndie.biz, Damon held key management positions and worked with companies like MTV Networks, Time Warner Cable, CBS, Broad Street Digital, New York.com and Deloitte & Touche.
