Landmark Panther Protection Plan Unveiled

Landmark Panther Protection Plan Unveiled

By SOP newswire2

Dwindling habitat is one of the major threats to endangered Florida panthers as development continues to put the squeeze on the estimated 100 of these big cats that remain in the wild. But Defenders, our conservation partners and landowners announced a groundbreaking conservation plan last month that could brighten the future for panthers in the Sunshine State.

The Florida Panther Protection Program aims to reconnect fragmented panther habitat in Southwest Florida. The program will also provide funds for restoration and conservation projects in the area, as well as panther crossings and fencing along roadways.

We have worked hard together for an innovative plan that could set this rare and extraordinary cat, Florida`s state animal, on a path toward recovery, ? said Defenders` Florida Programs Director Laurie Macdonald.
