International Union of Operating Engineers Local 150 Endorses Judge Powers for Third Appellate Court

By Matthew Kent

The International Union of Operating Engineers Local 150 today endorsed Judge Michael Powers' campaign for the Illinois Third Appellate Court.

"We need judges with fairness, integrity and honesty - and Judge Powers fits the bill," said William E. Dugan, president of Local 150. "Our endorsement of Judge Powers reflects not only his record of achievement on the bench - but also his commitment to the working families of the Third Appellate district."

Powers, an Associate Judge in Will County who also has served as a litigator and prosecutor, is the only candidate in the race rated "Highly Qualified" by the Illinois State Bar Association. He is running for the seat currently held by 3rd Appellate Justice Kent Slater, who is retiring.

"Having grown up in a Union household, I know firsthand the importance of protecting our working families," said Judge Powers. "I am honored to have this endorsement by an organization so committed to the needs of the working men and women of Illinois. I look forward to working Local 150 to educate the voters as to why I am the most qualified candidate to serve them on the Third Appellate Court."

The Third Appellate District consists of 21 counties, stretching from Will, Kankakee and Iroquois counties on the eastern border of Illinois, along the I-80 corridor to the counties of Rock Island, Mercer, Henderson and Hancock on the western border. The seat of the 3rd Appellate District is in Ottawa, located in LaSalle County.
