Mayor Wants Controversial Sculpture Removed Before Pope Visits Malta
"The mayor of a town near Malta`s main airport called Monday for the removal of a sculpture resembling a penis near the road leading to the capital Valletta ahead of a weekend visit by the pope.
The sculpture, which Mayor John Schembri described as `obscene` and "embarrassing`, should be removed `as a sign of respect` for Pope Benedict XVI, he said.
`Colonna Mediterranea` (Mediteranean Column) is the work of ceramic artist and sculptor Paul Vella Critien and was installed on a roundabout at the entrance to the village of Luqa in January 2006."
It`s nothing short of obscene that a work or art might be removed from public display out of respect for Pope Benedict. The head of the Roman Catholic Church doesn`t deserve any respect, he should be arrested for crimes against humanity.
The giant phallic symbol should not be removed, maybe it will remind the pontiff of the pedophile priests that he harbored and protected.
The controversial sculpture is the work of ceramic artist and sculptor Paul Vella Critien, he`s the one who deserves respect and admiration.
I hope the mayor changes his mind and allows the sculpture to remain standing out of respect for Critien.
