Neanderthal Pope Benedict Calls Gay Marriage "Insidious Threat"
"Pope Benedict XVI used a famous Portuguese shrine to the Virgin Mary on Thursday as a stage to denounce abortion and gay marriage, just days before Portugal is expected to join five European countries that have legalized same-sex weddings.
In a speech here to Catholic social service groups, Benedict called for initiatives aimed at protecting the family based on the indissoluble marriage between a man and a woman, help to respond to some of today`s most insidious and dangerous threats to the common good.
The pope`s remarks came on the third day of a four-day visit aimed at shoring up Christian belief in increasingly secular Europe, although it has been somewhat eclipsed by the sexual-abuse scandal confronting the Vatican in recent weeks."
Many countries in Europe can accurately be described as "post-Christian", they have rejected the myths and fables of organized religion in favor of science and commonsense.
When I hear Pope Benedict call gay marriage an "insidious threat", it makes me hope that one day soon Italy and Portugal will also evolve beyond religion.
The high divorce rate is the real threat to heterosexual marriage, in states where gay marriage is legal the heterosexual divorce rate hasn`t climbed.
How dare this Neanderthal pope demonize gays and lesbians, when the real demons are the priests who are molesting and raping young boys. How dare the celibate pontiff give advice on sexual matters. If the pope spends a weekend in a brothel, maybe he won`t be so uptight and he won`t be on a mission from Satan to deprive homosexuals of their human rights.
The "Holy Father`s" homophobic remarks won`t shore up Christian belief in a secular Europe, they will only serve to drive intelligent people from such a backwards and hateful church.
