Electromagnetic Fields Responsible For Toyota's Unwanted Acceleration Problem?
"As representatives of Toyota appeared before a House Subcommittee this weeks to testify on the automaker`s safety measures and the recent recalls of more than eight million vehicles - due in many cases to instances of sudden unintended acceleration - a debate has been revived over the effects of electromagnetic fields on cars` electrical systems.
Electromagnetic fields, or EMFs, are produced in varying frequencies due to their source: electric currents, power lines, radio and microwave antennas, airport radar, even cell phones. Cars also produce low-frequency magnetic fields.
According to one theory, electric signals can briefly interfere with the electronic controls of cars. As Toyota issued recalls over the matter of sudden unintended acceleration - blaming faulty pedals or obstructive floor mats - the possibility of interference by EMFs with Toyota`s electrical systems has been raised."
Toyota and other Japanese automakers have long enjoyed a well-deserved reputation for manufacturing high-quality automobiles. Brand names like Toyota and Honda are synonymous with customer satisfaction, and the American public is shocked at Toyota`s meltdown.
Toyota has placed the blame for sudden unintended acceleration on faulty pedals and obstructive floor mats. But Toyota is probably hoping that electromagnetic fields, and not poor design or workmanship, are responsible for the sudden acceleration problem.
Electric signals can interfere with the electronic controls of vehicles, and the government should look into this matter. It may not be just Toyota owners, but all of us who may be at risk of having electric signals interfere with the safe operation of our automobiles.
"Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood, also testifying before the subcommittee today, said the government is addressing the possibility that electromagnetic interference has played a role in acceleration problems."
Good, I`m relieved that the government doesn`t consider EMF`s interference with the operation of automobiles to be a crazy theory.
