Knight Rider Festival Lives it Up in Vegas

Knight Rider Festival Lives it Up in Vegas

By Garrett Godwin

"A shadowy flight into a dangerous world of a man who does not exist. ... a young loner on a crusade to champion the cause of the innocent, the helpless, and the powerless in a world of criminals who operate above the law. ... a lone crusader into a dangerous world: the world of the Knight Rider."

What happened in Vegas didn`t stay in Vegas, as fans came to Sin City over the weekend for The Knight Rider Festival downtown at the Fremont Street Experience. Attendants include creator/executive producer Glen A. Larson, original cast member Rebecca Holden (April Curtis), recurring guest stars Catherine Hickland (Stevie Mason), Ann Turkel, and new Knight Rider Justin Bruening and FLAG (Foundation For Law & Government) leader Deanna Russo (Sarah Graiman). People flocked to meet their favorite Knight Rider stars, ask questions, sign autographs, and so forth.

The event was created by Paul Casey Productions, and the website Knight Rider Online covered it. Las Vegas was the place that Knight Rider began when its legacy when the series debuted on NBC in the fall of 1982 and continued until 1986. The adventures of Michael Knight (David Hasselhoff) and his supercar KITT (Knight Industries Two Thousand) going from town to town righting injustices as the Lone Ranger and Tonto of the sci-fi fantasy genre was a hit for people of all ages all over the world.

Twenty years after reaching the end of its road, Knight Rider spawned several spin-offs, including the 1994 film Knight Rider 2010 from the weekend Universal Action Pack, and the current one, with Bruening as the son of Michael Knight. It was reported/rumored at TV Guide that the show was cancelled due to low ratings despite upgrading and retooling the series back to basics of the original format. However, Knight Rider Online has been campaigning to keep it going for a second season on NBC, and you can know more about this crusade as well as how to get involved at its website.

A "Super Pursuit Mode" fundraiser took place there at the event, as proceeds from fans and KITT owners were sent to the Children`s Miracle Network.
