Naruto and Religion Part II

As shown in Part I, the spiritual quality of Naruto, the popular Anime, is illustrated consistently and explicitly throughout the series. This article will delve deeper into the spiritual concepts as defined by the series. What are magical, and psycho-physical abilities in the real world?

I will start by explaining Taijutsu. Taijutsu means hand to hand techniques in combat. Now naturally, in the series this involves throwing unrealistically large amounts of punches in a short amount of time. In real life, everyone possesses the ability to learn martial arts. Everyone possesses the ability to learn Brazilian jujitsu, Muay Thai, and others, in an attempt to protect oneself and anyone around them from unfair harm. The act of learning martial arts is honorable and represents a physical control over one`s surroundings. Taijutsu is a very powerful thing.

Next is Genjutsu. Genjutsu is mental acrobatics in the Naruto series. What this means in the anime, is that one can control others with techniques like mind control through special eyesight and manipulation. Of course in the real world, special eyesight that can control others is impossible. However, manipulative games of speech are possible. Deception, interrogation, dissimulation and obfuscation are all techniques humans use when dealing with others actively. Those that master even only a few of these techniques often go far. Mental games of chess they are, for everybody from the Business man to the Politician. You do not have to be a mystical ninja to master these arts.

Finally, we come to Ninjutsu. Ninjutsu in the series means magical arts. The summoning of mythical creatures from Japanese folk lore, elementals, and great crafts of attack and determination are ninjitsu for these mythical ninjas. Here we come to a meeting ground in the article. Magical arts in the real world are not literally the summoning of huge elementals based on the five sino-japanese mythical elements. Yet, they still possess with them great power. They can be the writing of music or of books, painting, sculpting, fabricating weapons, etc. With the power of creation, human beings can create what they think and this is the greatest art of all!

From these three Jutsus " the big picture should be clear. With Taijutsu we see the anime`s definition of body ", From Genjutsu, the mind " and from Ninjutsu the spirit ". These three form a trinity of sorts in Asian religions. Mind, body and spirit, the way of the ninja!
