No Phoning While Driving!

No Phoning While Driving!

By Danielle Yoesep

Many car accidents are occurring because of this one little distraction: cell phones.  If the driver is using a cell phone while driving, their hands are occupied and they are not able to react as quickly if something unexpected were to happen.

For example, if an animal were to jump out in the middle of the road, the driver would not have enough time to drop their cell phone to swerve around the animal.  The car would hit the animal and that would most likely lead to the animal’s death.

Cell phones are also a distraction to drivers because drivers most likely would not be able to hear any emergency vehicles coming; they would be too concentrated on their phone conversation, or whatever else they are doing, to realize that they need to get out of the way.  The main problem with cell phones is that talking or text messaging while driving will draw the drivers’ attention away from the road.

Drivers are not able to focus on the road which could easily cause an accident.  Many states in the U.S. have made it illegal to use a cell phone while driving.  Most of these states only made it illegal for teenagers because they are the least experienced drivers and have higher crash rates.

By using a cell phone while driving is a huge distraction that can be very dangerous to yourself as well as others.  If drivers really want to be safe behind the wheel, they should do themselves a favor and keep away from the cell phone.
