At the event, representatives of CAIR`s New York and Pennsylvania chapters presented Hassan Askari with a Good Samaritan Award and Walter Adler, one of the victims of the attack, with an Interfaith Commitment Award in recognition of their inspiring example of promoting interfaith understanding and mutual respect.

"A bias attack on one community is an attack on us all regardless of the creed, race or religion of the victim or perpetrator," said CAIR-NY Civil Rights Director Aliya Latif. "Hassan Askari and Walter Adler`s friendship reaffirms the need for honest conversation between Muslims and Jews and their respective community organizations."

CAIR, America`s largest Muslim civil liberties group, has 33 offices, chapters and affiliates nationwide and in Canada. Its mission is to enhance the understanding of Islam, encourage dialogue, protect civil liberties, empower American Muslims, and build coalitions that promote justice and mutual understanding.
