For those of you who are aware of this figure, bravo! For those of you who are not, this is a wakeup call. As we Americans are fully aware, the government granted a $700 billion bailout program to our ailing economy an effort that was allegedly made to remedy our recession-strapped financial institutions.
However, if one were to take a look under the proverbial hood of the engine that is sending our country into a collision with economic tragedy, one would discover that the hard-earned, American dollars intended to resurrect our floundering, financial circumstances were LESS THAN 1/3 of the tax dollars being spent by the government to grant amnesty to the illegal immigrants residing within U.S. borders.
According to The Heritage Foundation (www.heritage.org) in a 2007 article, the U.S. government was prepared to shell out more than 2.6 billion dollars in order to provide amnesty to illegal immigrants. Additionally it was expressed that there were 11.5 to 12 million illegal immigrants residing in the United States as of spring of 2006.
In the same article it is presented that the number of illegal immigrants residing within the U.S. increases annually by 500,000 (Rector 2007). This, by the estimate of The Heritage Foundation, would put the gross illegal immigrant population at 13 to 13.5 million as of spring of this year. With this new population figure in mind, let`s get an idea of precisely what it is we are spending per immigrant per the Secure Borders, Economic Opportunity and Immigration Reform Act of 2007.
First, we will need to divide 2.6 trillion dollars between 12 million illegal immigrants. That figure is a whopping $216,666.67 per person. So with an additional 1.5 million illegal immigrants finding amnesty within our country between spring of `06 through spring of 09, we must now add to the 2.6 trillion dollar price tag an additional $324,999,000,000.00!
This brings our American tax dollar allotment for the betterment of the illegal immigrant life to a staggering cost of nearly $3 TRILLION. THREE TRILLION DOLLARS is more than we, as American citizens, have been given to re-establish our economy, save our jobs and save our homes.
To put this into a greater perspective, $216,666.67 is a figure that would take the average American worker earning no more than minimum wage more than 14 years to earn " and that is if they got to take home their gross pay. In reality, it would take the average, American worker earning minimum wage and paying taxes more than 18 and a half years to bring $216,666.67 home in net pay.
Now, if you are of the have status of the natural born U.S. citizen population, this figure may not mean much to you, but, for those of us who struggle from day to day and week to week and check to check, it is an insult and a treason to the very ethics by which we apply our energies.
Again, it is implored and left up to you, my fellow Americans, to join me in addressing these issues with our governing members. If we do not speak up, we will never be heard more importantly, we will never enjoy the privilege of secure retirements, health care benefits or any of the other many comforts earned by a job well done. Our leaders are bleeding us from the corroded artery.
