Upcoming 2013 Movie: Mortal Kombat Rebirth

Upcoming 2013 Movie: Mortal Kombat Rebirth

By Tony Graff

2010 had a load of great movies. From Iron Man 2 to Tangled, the movie theaters really put their best foot forward. Looking ahead, the next few years are going to be just as good.

One of the big movies in the works is Mortal Kombat, scheduled to be released in 2013. If you were like me when you first heard this, you were cringing at the thought of another video game movie. Especially after watching Resident Evil: Afterlife.

Watching the trailer on www.youtube.com, entitled Mortal Kombat: Rebirth, changed all that. For those unfamiliar with the game, Mortal Kombat was the game created by Midway Games to compete with the success that Capcom received from Street Fighter. It featured a tournament that spanned time and space, finding the most savage fighters to compete for the security of their realm.

Mortal Kombat: Rebirth isn`t going to end up anything like Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li, which had fans of the game crying in shame. Rather than having this be the mystical tournament, it`s turning illegal underground fighting, orchestrated by Shang Tsung, and featuring the darkest, most bloodthirsty criminals, serial killers, and assassins.

Movies based on video games have been worse than hit or miss, with most movies missing completely. The first Mortal Kombat movie, while followed the game explicitly, wasn`t as enjoyable to watch. The upcoming movie not only reinvents the characters, but completely builds the Mortal Kombat tournament into something much more believable.
