Is Launch of X-37B in Response to North Korea's Scheduled Missile Test?
After recently being delayed, The USAir Force robo-space plane, X-37B will begin its third mission today. The flight of this mysterious plane was delayed after a Delta 4 rocket fault took place in October.
The USAir Force robo-space plane X-37B was built by Boeing`s secretive Phantom Works in Huntington Beach, California and is rumored to be everything from a space bomber to a satellite-killer or a test-bed for advanced spy satellite sensors. It is unclear what exactly the X-37B is carrying, and how long it will be in orbit.
"Inquiring minds want to know, right?" said John Pike, director of GlobalSecurity.org, a leading source of defense, space and intelligence information.
"But posing this question presumes that (the mini-shuttle) does serve some specific purpose. And I think that might be imposing greater rationality on the whole thing than is warranted."
Some wonder whether or not the timing of the launch is in response to North Korea`s up and coming missile launch.
Chinese officials said they have a deep suspicion of the vehicle and its activities.
China views the X-37B "as a perfect example of the U.S. developing a space weapon program while stating in public that they`re doing no such thing," said Brian Weeden, technical adviser to Secure World Foundation.
