Robert L. Wise, The Secret Road Home "

The Secret Road Home (Broadman & Holman, May 15, 2006) is the third novel in a trilogy of World War II stories. A former pilot remembers being shot down over Belgium and his struggle to escape the Gestapo. Partially based on the true story of an American pilot, the hero is severely burned and must struggle to avoid the fierce pursuit of the Nazis. The family who saves him was one of actual heroes who lived in Brussels, Belgium. Only his faith in God can guide the fleeing pilot through war-torn Belgium and France as he runs for the English Channel. Wise can discuss:

  • How he traveled across Belgium and France, following the same trail that the hero used, discovering the culture and people who are part of this novel
  • The touching and moving scenes that put the reader back in touch with the values and ideals of World War II. Life was simpler and more basic then and that can impart encouragement and hope to contemporary readers.
