Northrop Grumman Corporation (NYSE: NOC) announced that its Italy-based navigation systems subsidiary, Lital S.p.A, has changed its name to Northrop Grumman Italia S.p.A. to optimize its branding and strengthen its identity with the $30 billion global defense and technology company.

"We are an established provider of commercial and military navigation systems and services to the Italian government as well as other European nations, and this name change will enhance our branding and position us for continued success in the future," said Jake Volkert, vice president and general manager of Northrop Grumman`s Navigation Systems Division.

Northrop Grumman Italia`s products are primarily used in avionics and tactical applications but are also used in naval and land-based applications. Additional products include tactical command and control, intelligent handheld terminals and artillery automation.

"We will continue to offer the same products and services to our customers and specialize in adapting and modifying our products to meet customer requirements, and offer full turn-key integration of our products with flight management, flight control systems and other avionics equipment," said Carmine Maccarone, general manager of Northrop Grumman Italia.

Northrop Grumman Italia serves as a prime contractor for several domestic Italian and European collaborative programs. The company provides products, maintenance and customer support services to the European domestic and international markets and has its own independent research, design, development, engineering and manufacturing facilities.

Its products include inertial navigation systems, attitude and heading reference systems, fixed gyro-based system integration packages; rotary wing dual redundant navigation/flight control packages; missile inertial measurement sensors and sensor stabilization packages; inertial measurement units with dynamically tuned gyros; laser gyroscopes; fiber-optic gyroscope technologies; map and mission computers and displays.

Northrop Grumman Italia technologies include dry tuned gyros, ring laser gyros and micro-electromechanical system accelerometers and gyros, computers and displays.

Northrop Grumman Italia was founded in 1961 in Pomezia, Italy to manufacture the inertial navigation system for F-104 Starfighter for Italy, Germany, Belgium and the Netherlands.

In Europe, Northrop Grumman operates from locations in France, Germany, Italy and Norway, providing navigation, air traffic control and postal automation systems. In the UK Northrop Grumman operates from primary locations in London, Fareham, Coventry, New Malden, Peterborough and Solihull and provides avionics, communications, electronic warfare systems, marine navigation systems, robotics, C4I and mission planning, information technology systems and software development.
