Argument Results In Guy's Ear Getting Bitten Off

By Robert Paul Reyes

"Two Ogden neighbors got into a fight after a minor league baseball game that ended with one them biting off a part of the other`s ear. The two men had returned home from the Ogden Raptors baseball game late Wednesday when police said one man apparently offended the other with a comment."

Quotation from the Associated Press (AP)

Most folks wouldn`t give this sorry little episode a second thought, but I have a few thoughts on the matter.

It`s interesting that the AP article doesn`t name the individuals. It`s as if the AP writer is saying that individuals involved in such a lowlife escapade don`t deserve to be named.

The AP story doesn`t have a byline, was the writer ashamed to accept such a trivial and banal assignment? Hell, most of my editorials cover the stupidity, greed of human life, and I`m always more than glad to see my byline.

I wonder what precipitated the altercation, exactly what did the guy say to make his neighbor take such umbrage? Was it the classic "Your Mom wears combat boots"? Or did somebody`s panties get into a twist because their masculinity was questioned? Enquiring minds want to know...

If my name ever appears in a newspaper, other than in the editorial page, I hope it`s not because of some nonsense like a loon biting off my ear.
