Girl Seeks Donations Online So She Can Attend Notre Dame

Girl Seeks Donations Online So She Can Attend Notre Dame

By Robert Paul Reyes

"The name of Rachel Harris` Web site says it all.

The 17-year-old high school senior recently launched to help her raise money to pay for an education at the school. The site includes copies of her Notre Dame application form, letters of recommendation and her high school transcript.

Harris has applied for admission to the Roman Catholic school in South Bend, Ind., and expects to be accepted there. The problem is meeting its more than $46,000 annual cost of tuition, fees, room and board." The Associated Press

It`s unseemly to beg, especially when the petitioner isn`t begging for food or shelter but for money to attend an elite university. Rachel Harris has shamed herself, and brought unwanted notoriety to her family.

Most students would love to attend Notre Dame, Harvard, or UC Berkeley, but if you can`t afford to attend a prestigious university there`s no shame in attending a state college.

Giving money to the likes of Harris is only marginally better than sending a check to a Nigerian scammer. Rachel should apologize to her parents, and immediately take down her Web site.
