Judyth Piazza chats with Peter Van Buskirk, Author of Winning the College Admission Game

A student of the college-going process and a dedicated consumer advocate, Peter Van Buskirk has drawn from his extensive experience in higher education to build The Admission Game into an advocacy resource for educators and families of college-bound students. His ability to cut through the rhetoric and hyperbole to promote a healthy student-centered, college-going culture for families makes his a welcome voice of reason. A 25-year veteran of the college admission process, his presentations of "The Admission Game" have benefited thousands of families and educators worldwide.

Van Buskirk has conducted professional development workshops for school districts, professional associations and conferences around the country. In addition, he provided programming for educators at U.S. Department of Defense military base high schools in Japan, Korea and the Caribbean. In 2006, he produced a two-day educational track for college access professionals at the annual National Council for Community and Educational Partnerships (NCCEP) Capacity Building event.

Among his credits are two books, Winning the College Admission Game; Strategies for Students and Parents (Peterson`s, 2007), and The College Planning Workbook (AES, 2004). He was also a production consultant "and featured content anchor "for the documentary, "Kids Going to College!" that premiered on the Fine Living Channel in the summer of 2007.

An active member of the National Association of College Admission Counselors (NACAC), Van Buskirk is a regular presenter at state/regional ACAC conferences as well as meetings of the National Association of Secondary School Principals (NASSP), the National School Board Association (NSBA) and the National Council for Community and Educational Partnerships (NCCEP/GEAR UP).

A graduate of Bucknell University, Peter was Dean of Admission at Franklin & Marshall College before joining Peterson`s where he was Vice President for College Planning Solutions.
