"Big Easy rapper C-Murder (Corey Miller), 38, was sentenced yesterday to a mandatory term of life in prison without parole in the `02 beating and fatal shooting of 16-year-old fan Steve Thomas at a Harvey, La., nightclub.
C-Murder is a rapper from the Calliope Projects in New Orleans. Miller`s rapping skills were a ticket out of the projects, but he never discarded his thug mentality. Instead of warning kids about the dangers of succumbing to a life of crime, Miller glorified violence in his profanity-laced lyrics. It`s no big surprise that a fool with a moniker "C-Murder"who fantazies about killing his enemies in his songs would commit murder in real life.
C-Murder isn`t an aberration in the rap game, there`s a long list of rappers who have been convicted of serious crimes. The vast majority of people who buy rap records don`t live in the projects, they are white suburban kids who get a kick out of the rap Minstrel show. C-Murder wasn`t a cool player, he was a clownish criminal who was shuckin and jiving for the amusement of white folks.
When C-Murder hit the big time, he could have repudiated violence and become a role model for kids. Now he`s going to spend the rest of his life behind bars, always looking over his shoulder for some con who wants to gain prison cred by killing a famous rapper.
