I am currently a sophomore at East Los Angeles College. I am studying journalism and will transfer to Cal State Los Angeles this fall. I am an editor, writer and photographer for my campus newspaper. This semester I am the opinion editor and last semester I was the sports editor. I also have experience in writing various story subjects that include news, features, opinions, arts and sports. Being in the newspaper has given me a lot of experience and I feel that I have become a much better writer. Nonetheless, journalism is what I want to do for the rest of myself. I truly enjoy being a reporter, because I feel that it is important to give a voice to voiceless. As reporters, we have a big responsibility over our community with informing them about the issues in their area.
I feel that in any branch of journalism the responsibilities are the same, whether I am a news, music or feature reporter. The point is that as reporters we are the deliverers of information to the public.
Well, a little bit more about myself, I am born and raised in Los Angeles, CA. I have grown up with a single mother. At times life became difficult because of personal or financial issues that come up, but nevertheless I have managed to stay focused and driven.
I think that my perspective of life is a unique one. I understand that life isn’t always pretty roses, and I feel that this perspective allows me to stay ambitious. I know that there are many people in the world that cannot attend college for whatever reason and that is why I feel very grateful for everything that I have. Furthermore my biggest goal in life is to be able to make a difference, big or small. I just really want to do a good job at what it is that I love, journalism.
In terms of the internship, I feel that I will be a good addition to The Student Operated Press because I have experience and will bring something new to the table with my unique creativity. I am also very hard working, dedicated and determined.
