Fiachra O Muircheartaigh
My name is Fiachra O Muircheartaigh and I am a 22 year old native of Dublin, Ireland.
I have recently completed my undergraduate degree programme in Irish (language) and New Media in the University of Limerick, Limerick, Ireland and have been awarded a first class honours degree by the university, which I will receive on the 26th of this month.
I have studied a broad range of subjects relative to the field of New Media which has enabled me to develop a keen interest in broader trends in the field, how the field emerged, and where the field might be headed.
Working for the SOP would allow me to deepen my knowledge of the media field on a professional level and would provide me with a valuable opportunity to draw on and use that which I have studied as a student of New Media. It would be of enormous benefit to me in terms of work experience as I very much hope to work as a journalist in the future.
I have much experience of working to deadlines as my course placed strong emphasis on project work, both group and individual, owing to the universitys system of continuous assessment allied to end of semester examinations. I have considerable experience of working with others as my positions with ATC Language and Travel, Colonias de Inmersion al Idioma and the OKeffe School of English required and demanded a great deal of interaction and collaboration with colleagues. I have made my way up the ladder so to speak with ATC having worked as an activity leader, a senior activity leader and acting co-manager in one of the companys language centres over a period of 5 years.
I have a high level of academic training in knowledge acquisition and analytical skills, have professional fluency in the Irish and English languages and a strong interest in and exposure to other languages and cultures, which I have shown by my ability to work and study outside Ireland. I have experienced different education systems and working environments.
Finally, I have a strong desire to leave Ireland and to work abroad. I feel that I am at the right age to go abroad, experience a new and different culture and commit myself to that culture while gaining valuable work experience at the same time.
I believe that an internship with the SOP would be an excellent base from which to further my interests in the media field and to develop my own ideas on them.
