Robert Alexander

I have a BA from UCSC, 1983, in Sociology with an emphasis in social psychology. I was pre-med but organic chemistry and physics were mountains too high to climb without help and at the time I did not know about dyslexia or discalculia and that I was afflicted with both.

I have lived in New York, Southern and Northern California, Nevada, Oregon and Hawaii.  I was also an AFS student to Portugal in 1975 and spent my university junior year abroad in Lund, Sweden.  The Peace Corps is currently in my sights.

I currently and temporarily reside in the town of Ashland, Oregon and I am what is known as a seeker.  A seeker of truth, my truth, any truth.  I am having no luck except in the area of my own truth.

Dyslexic and dyscalculic, undiagnosed until after I graduated college, much of my soul searching and writing centers around human nature and the meaning of life as seen through the eyes of the many who see so many things so differently.  I see things backwards, so it is an interesting perspective. Culture fascinates me.  The fact that we cannot step outside our own culture no matter where we are fascinates me more.

My essay on dyslexia is hopefully one of many and most certainly, maybe, the preamble of a book.

The Masked Dyslexic - My personal experience with dyslexia as I am both severely dyslexic and dyscalculic, and how to begin to not only accept these challenges but how to work with them.
