Can We Blame The Earthquake In China On Bad Karma Or HAARP?
"An earthquake is the result of a sudden release of energy in the Earth`s crust that creates seismic waves."
Quotation from Wikipedia
We live in a highly advanced technological society, and we should accept only scientific explanations for "acts of nature."
In some dark corners of the world, when there`s an earthquake, tornado, hurricane or flood, these catastrophes are blamed on petulant gods.
But even in America, there are those who believe that natural disasters are evidence of God`s wrath.
Televangelist John Hagee thundered from the pulpit that Hurricane Katrina was a punishment from God, because New Orleans was having a gay pride parade.
It`s not just evangelicals who subscribe to this nonsense, Sharon Stone said that the devastating earthquake in China might have been "karma" for the Chinese government`s treatment of Tibet and the Dalai Lama.
Here`s an excerpt from an email from a person who attributes a pseudo-scientific explanation for the recent earthquake in Sichuan:
What is H-A-A-R-P? It stands for High Frequency Active Auroral Research Program. The High Frequency Active Auroral Research Program (HAARP) is an investigation project to "understand, simulate and control ionospheric processes that might alter the performance of communication and surveillance systems"
Here comes the SCARY part. What it could also do was to generate a HF transmission that would be sent into the Earth`s ionosphere. It would create vibrations and ultimately trigger an earthquake. I`m not great at explaining how it works so...please just look at the videos.
The folks from Sichuan saw these pheonmenon just 10-30 minutes before the earthquake. Clearly, it adds weight to the conspiracy theory."
Occam`s Razor: (Paraphrased) "All other things being equal, the simplest solution is the best."
The Sichuan earthquake wasn`t triggered by HAARP or meddling UFO`s, it was caused by a sudden release of energy in the Earth`s crust.
It`s fun to subscribe to conspiracy theories, it builds our self-confidence to believe that we are one of the few individuals who really know what`s going on. But fluoride in our drinking water won`t lead to the decline and fall of Western Civilization, and HAARP is a scientific research program-- not a diabolical plan to trigger earthquakes all over the world.
The simplest solution or explanation is usually the right one, and sometimes sh** just happens.
