Foreign Ministers from CSTO Member States Meets in Dushanbe

By SOP newswire

Dushanbe played host to a Council of Foreign Ministers (CFM) meeting of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) on October 4.

Meeting participants examined a broad range of questions, including those being submitted to a session of the CSTO Collective Security Council to be held on October 6, and summed up efforts for security and stability over the 15 years since the signing of the Collective Security Treaty and five years since the establishment of the CSTO as well as prospects for the further development of allied relations in the collective format.

Military building was the focus of attention. The participants discussed matters relating to streamlining the regulatory and legal base of military and economic cooperation, the intended use of military products and rendering military-technical assistance to member states in case of a threat of aggression or the commission of an act of aggression as well as the creation within the Organization of mechanisms of peacekeeping activity, counteraction against illegal migration and collaboration in emergency situations of a natural and technogenic character.

A decision was adopted to improve the mechanism of foreign policy coordination, along with a plan of relevant consultations, which is particularly urgent in view of the dynamic evolution of the international situation, especially in the Organization’s zone of responsibility.

Drafts of an Agreement Between the CSTO and the Government of the Russian Federation on the Terms of Stationing of the CSTO Joint Headquarters and of a Protocol amending the Agreement on Legal Status of the CSTO, designed to enhance the efficiency of the working bodies of the Organization, were examined and endorsed.

The ministers also approved a draft agenda for the upcoming session of the CSTO Collective Security Council.
