Bicycle Bomber kills 3, wounds 13 in Sri Lanka
Sri Lankan officials say at least three people were killed and 13 others wounded when a suicide bomber riding a bicycle blew himself up in the north Thursday.
The military blamed Tamil Tiger rebels for the attack, which happened in the northern Jaffna peninsula.
The bombing came a day after the country's air force fighter jets pounded rebel positions in the same area and troops attacked 35 rebel bunkers, destroying 25 of them.
The military said at least 10 rebels were killed in the clashes. However, the Tigers said they drove off the government offensive against their positions.
Sri Lanka's government formally pulled out of a 2002 Norwegian-brokered cease-fire with the Tamil Tiger rebels earlier this month.
At least 70,000 people have been killed since the rebels began fighting for an independent homeland in 1983 - claiming discrimination by Sri Lanka's majority Sinhalese population. The Tamil Tigers already control much of the island's north.
