Keep Christ And Santa Claus Out Of Christmas

By Robert Paul Reyes

"A group of German Catholics wants to do away with Santa Claus because of the fictional figure`s commercial hype and replace him with St Nicolas and the selfless giving they say he represents.

Even before shops fill with Santa-themed goodies, the Bonifatiuswerk of German Catholics -- a Catholic aid organization -- has begun calling for `Santa Claus-free zones.`

The organization sees Santa as "an invention of the advertising industry designed to boost sales" and as "a representative of consumer society" who has little to do with the historical figure of St Nicolas."

Santa Claus, as depicted in movies, TV shows and commercials, is a jolly and benevolent character who loves children and pets.

Department store Santas are men reeking of alcohol and crawling with vermin. They love cheap wine, and hate children and pets.

Who is more reprehensible, the Santa invented by Madison Ave to make us buy stuff we don`t need and can`t afford, or the wino Santa who is hired by your local department store?

I agree with the German Catholics, kick Santa Claus to the curb!

But Jesus Christ should be banned from Christmas advertising as well. Jesus would be horrified if he knew that his image was being used to spur us into mindless consumerism.

Jesus, whether you think he`s the Son of God or not, is too holy a person to be associated with a holiday characterized by greed, debauchery, and selfishness.

Theologians unanimously agree that Jesus Christ wasn`t born on December 25th, and we shouldn`t celebrate his birthday on a pagan holiday.

Let`s keep Christ and Santa Claus out of Christmas, and to hell with St. Nicolas. Nobody in America gives a flying fig about St. Nick.

Why not celebrate the birth of Angelina Jolie on Christmas? I think most dudes are with me on this one. The Hollywood Hottie has as much to do with Christmas, as Jesus Christ and freakin` Santa Claus
