Michael Douglas To Play Liberace In His Next Film Role
"Cancer-stricken Michael Douglas is already looking toward his next film role playing iconic pianist Liberace after recently completing chemotherapy treatment for throat cancer.
The 66-year-old actor told The Hollywood Reporter in an interview published on Tuesday that he`s just happy to be talking after a year of `adversity,` including discovering he had stage four throat cancer, his son Cameron being sentenced to prison on drug charges, and his ex-wife suing him for earnings from the `Wall Street` sequel.
Douglas said he won`t learn until January whether the tumor in his throat has been eliminated, but described his chemotherapy as a `hellhole.` Nevertheless, it brought him closer to his 93 year-old father, actor Kirk Douglas, with whom he once fought.
After the hellish year that Michael Douglas endured, it would be understandable if the talented actor looked forward only to a long period of rest and recuperation.
But the 66-year-old thespian is looking toward his next film project playing Liberace. It may seem counterintuitive, but the rigors of filming a movie may be just what the doctor ordered for the cancer-stricken superstar. Looking forward to his next acting role is what gives meaning to the movie star`s life, its when you no longer have any purpose in life that you wither and die.
I can`t imagine tough guy Douglas playing a dandy like Liberace, but I`m sure he has the acting chops for this tremendous challenge.
We wish Michael Douglas a Happy New Year, and we hope that he lives long enough to make many more films.
