Chicago Emergency Responders Save Coyote From Drifting Slab Of Ice

By Robert Paul Reyes

"Chicago emergency responders said they rescued a coyote spotted drifting on a piece of Lake Michigan ice.

Fire Media Affairs Chief Kevin MacGregor said firefighters were alerted to the animal`s presence on the ice, near Fullerton Avenue, at about 9:40 a.m. Friday and the coyote was rescued about an hour later with the help of police, a helicopter, the Department of Animal Care & Control and a Fire Department boat, the Chicago Sun-Times reported Friday."

A spokesperson for the Fire Department said that the coyote was "just standing there" on the slab of ice when help arrived. No kidding! I wouldn`t expect that the coyote would be doing the Macarena or viewing porn on his cellphone.

Coyotes are regarded as nuisance animals, but all creatures are noble and useful in some way. It`s encouraging for those of us who love all animals, that the Chicago emergency responders expended time and resources to save a coyote.

I hope that the Chicago emergency responders and the coyote will have a Merry Christmas, and a Happy New Year!
