Bravo! Abercrombie & Fitch Fires Muslim Lady Over Wearing A Hijab

By Robert Paul Reyes

"A Foster City woman who is suing Abercrombie & Fitch for allegedly firing her for wearing a headscarf said she was "completely shocked" when she lost her job after she had been working at a retail store at the Hillsdale Shopping Center for four months.

Hani Khan, 20, said it was the first time in her life she had faced discrimination since she started wearing a headscarf in kindergarten. As a Muslim, she chooses to wear a headscarf, or hijab, that covers her hair, ears and neck as part of her religious practice of modesty when in public.

When a young girl or a woman walks into a clothing store and she sees a store employee wearing a hijab she`s liable to do a u turn and walk right out of there.

A hijab is the antithesis of haute couture and modern fashion sensibilities, it`s a symbol of women`s oppression. Why would any sensible lady patronize an establishment where a female staff member dons such reprehensible attire?

Abercrombie & Fitch and its affliliated stores have a "look policy",employees must wear clothes that convey a "beachy, fun vibe." There is nothing beachy or fun about a hijab, it conjures up images of a Muslim man beating his wife for having the temerity to go to the mall by herself.

This is America for heaven`s sake; we believe in Mom,apple pie and shopping until you drop at a hajib-free mall. A fun vibe is what we`re all about, and a hajib is anathema to those of us who like to have a good time.

Khan is free to walk around in a hajib at home and in public, but once she steps into an Abercrombie & Fitch store, as an employee she must comply with company policy.

Send an email to Abercrombie & Fitch and praise them for doing the right thing.
