Petey The Parakeet Freed From Car Grille Adopted

By Robert Paul Reyes

"Officials at a Florida animal hospital said they have selected a new owner for a parakeet rescued from the front grill of a car.

Dotty Molski, executive director of the Sawgrass Nature Center & Wildlife Hospital in Coral Springs, said Petey the Monk parakeet was pulled from the grill of the car that struck him last week and a new owner was selected from dozens of applicants Sunday, the South Florida Sun-Sentinel reported Tuesday."

This story restores my faith in humankind, it`s heartwarming to see so many persons show concern for a poor bird who was struck by a car.

In a less enlightened time a bird who was struck by a vehicle would have simply been thrown away like garbage. But rescue workers freed the parakeet from the car, and they took him to an animal hospital.

It`s amazing and wonderful that dozens of people wanted to adopt Petey. There`s hope for a society that places value on a poor little injured bird.

I hope Petey`s new owners take good care of him, and make sure that he never ends up in a car`s grille again.
