Outrage: Swedish Dude With No Legs Denied Power Wheelchair

By Robert Paul Reyes

"A Swedish man who lost both legs said health authorities denied a request for a power wheelchair because they were "uncertain if the impairment was permanent." UPI

hoveroundIn the United States manufacturers of power wheelchairs, like the Hoveround, bilk Medicare out of billions by pestering senior citizens who don`t need such a device until they finally give in an get one. Medicare picks up the full tab, there must be thousands of mobility scooters collecting dust in the garages of old farts.

The Swedish authorities are a little bit more skeptical than their American counterparts, but I doubt that the Swedish dude is trying to pull of a scam. You don`t have to be a rocket scientist or a physician to discern that the poor guy`s disability is permanent.

Ewert Stefansson lost both of his legs to diabetes, and if anyone needs a souped-up wheelchair it`s him.

Stefansson contacted the Permobile company, and they are going to loan him a scooter. Merry Christmas wishes to Stefansson and Permobile, and a lump of coal for the health authorities in Sweden.

Editor`s Note: There are tens of thousands of senior and disabled citizens who are thrilled with their Hoveround wheelchairs! An editorial writer is free to express his opinion and biases, it`s the contention of Mr. Reyes that power wheelchair companies are very aggresive is selling their products to senior citizens.

Stefansson received a "Permobile" wheelchair, not a "Hoveround."
